Wisdom

Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction“. To appreciate this scripture we must begin to understand what it means to fear the Lord? Fear in this context does not refer to terror, but the feeling that you have when you’re in the presence of greatness: awe and reverence. Therefore, the fear of the Lord is a consciousness of the true nature of God; that a GREAT GOD, the God of the heavens and the earth is always present and He watches over us and our actions. This reverence and consciousness of being in the presence of a Holy God inspires our actions to be pure, gentle, godly, full of mercy, and of good report, given that nothing escapes His attention. This translates into wise behaviors and an upright lifestyle; a lifestyle lived by godly instruction and according to the will of God. When we understand who God is, this is the beginning of wisdom since without godly counsel and direction we make decisions based on our human understanding, which is unwise according to proverbs 28:26 “Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered“. When we live an godly lifestyle this is the path to wisdom and everyone benefits.
